We are all well acquainted with baking soda and are aware of its cleansing and whitening properties. But what about using this aggressive powder for our gentle skin care? Does it make sense at all and is it dangerous? First of all let’s clear what exactly baking soda is.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) – is a crystal white powder, with slightly acidic flavor and no scent. Once mixed with water, this absorbate immediately starts an active production of carbon dioxide.
Baking soda is capable to soften even the hardest waters. It can manage all fats (once combined with water, this element provides an alcaline reaction, as a result splitting all the fats).
Baking soda effects in skin care products
Sodium bicarbonate possesses powerful antibacterial and softening properties, which are extremely valuable in all beauty treatment recipes. But be aware, using soda for facial skin is not included into daily routines ( you may use scrub for the face 1-2 times a week). Once this element is applied on the skin (as it is known, normal alkaline balance equals to 5.5 pH) baking soda immediately rises this balance due to its alkaline reaction.
Lipids ( or fat cells) start to get destroyed in the epidermis. Lipids create on the surface of the skin a so called protecting coat. Once the skin loses such a protection it tends to get dry and starts to exfoliate. But it happens only in that case, when oil glads function properly, without producing extra oil.
It is prohibited to use soda in the following cases:
- If the capillaries are located too close to the surface of the skin;
- if a person has blood vascular system disorders;
- in case of extremely gentle and sensitive skin;
- if there are any active inflammation processes;
- if there are any open scratches or wounds.
Baking soda is the best assistant when it comes to treating oil type of skin. It will help to narrow down the widen pores, remove greasy shine and will eliminate the amount of pimples, blackheads (comedons). It’s anti-inflammatory properties will also become handy. Besides that, sodium bicarbonate absorbs various toxins, all harmful elements that are left on top of the epidermis after every use of concealer or face powder.
Benefits of baking soda scrub
It is an awesome remedy which penetrates skin’s pores rather deeply. After couple of treatments, oil type of skin will get totally cleaned from horned particles (as you know, they are the ones responsible for clogging the oil ducts and blackheads irritation processes ).
